MEAT WAVE 10K

Chicago punks Meat Wave release '10k', the abrasive fourth outing from their menacing upcoming album Malign Hex. The track is a taught burst of dark punk energy, a driving rhythm section and repetitive spiked guitar riffs, reminiscent of early Cloud Nothings or noise punks Metz, lyrically it is a reflection on ageing, and a feeling of inherent or generational doom that casts a shadow across the whole album. Here the band explain the meaning behind the song: "'10k' is about being alive for 10,000 days, which is around your 28th birthday. Feels like a long time - but is it? You feel like you know so much about life and navigating through it - but do you? Nah, not really. The title of the record directly relates to '10k'. A malign hex pertains to your lineage. It’s something that is pertinent to only you, it’s handed down to you, or was raised in you. In that way, and pertaining to the record as a whole, I’d like to think it’s a human, universal feeling." Malign Hex is set for release on October 14th on Big Scary Monsters Records. -Toby Evans-Jesra
